As a member of the Foragers, your youth has the opportunity to earn their first bee hive and a voucher to purchase bees or supplies/equipment. The activities that we complete in the club help develop each member’s skills so they are successful beekeepers.
In order to complete the program, a Forager must complete the following tasks:
- Complete 6 months of active membership, as at least a Junior member.
- Complete the 4-H Honey Bee Project Book I and 4-H Honey Bee Project Book II
- Complete an educational program for the club on Honey Bees or beekeeping once a year.
- Participate in 18 hours of a club Honey Bee/Honey Promotional Project (ex: Strawberry Festival, Farmer’s Market, etc.)
- Visit a Forager Apiary (Open Hive Demo and participate).
- Participate in a Skillathon Competition or hold executive office for a year and complete duties 90% of activities/meetings.
- Attend 2/3 of actual meetings.
- Participate in 18 hours of Foragers’ community service.
- Purchase required equipment and pass the Tool Use Test
The club member must Purchase and Present Required Equipment to include the following:
- Gloves
- Veil
- Suit or Jacket
- Feeder
- Hive Tool
- Brush
- Smoker
Upon Completion of A and B, within 2 consecutive 4-H years (October 1- September 30), the Forager will receive the following:
- Outer Cover
- Inner Cover
- Two Medium Hive Boxes
- Frames
- Screened Bottom Board
- Entrance Reducer
- $75 grant in the form of a check
