For the month of August, the Foragers completed another community service project. This time we visited the Tidewater Beekeeper’s Association Pollinator Garden and weeded it. This pollinator garden was installed as a girl scout project in the bee club’s apiary. It is a very long but narrow garden that runs the length of the fencing in front of the apiary yard. We started on one end of the garden and moved down. Even with it being very hot, we were able to weed a little over half of the garden during the time we were there. Club member dad, Mr. Mike, provided the muscle by clearing the weeds with the rake and the hoe. During breaks to rehydrate, the club members even got to see the yard’s chicken, one being very curious and coming over to the fence to visit. As a result of the hard work of our Foragers, we were able to fill ten 30-gallon trash bags full of weeds!
